New Exhibition: Windows of Light

I have just completed a new series of work which is currently exhibited at The Lawrence Batley Theatre, Hudderfield as part of the Artist In Residence End of Year Exhibition. The exhibition runs until the 20th October 2012. Please click here for more information about this series of work.

Recent Exhibition at The LBT: The Last Curtain Call

I have been really busy over the last few months creating work for exhibition at The Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield.

The first exhibition was a solo exhibition called "The Last Curtain Call" featuring images of the Palace Theatre, Hudderfield which has been left to decay under 50 years of dust and is soon to be converted into student accommodation. If you didn't get chance to see the exhibition here are a few images for you to enjoy. More information can also be found here

Photography for fellow HOST Artist: Mary Lane

Recently I was asked by Mary Lane, a fellow HOST Artist, who I originally met through my Artist Residency at The Lawrence Batley Theatre, if I would photograph some of her work so that she could produce promotional materials and products. The images turned out great and Mary is hoping to get some of them printed large scale, along with a series of greetings cards. Here are some of the images of her great work ...

I am part way through producing a new line of photographic cards to compliment the current work I am doing during my residency at the Lawrence Batley Theatre. They are currently only available from my workspace on the Balcony at the LBT so next time you visit feel free to have a look.... and buy one (or more) if you wish!!

More work in progress at the LBT

I am busy working on a new series of images as part of my residency at the Lawrence Batley Theatre.
Through these images I am exploring the mood and atmosphere of the Theatre and its surroundings. At the moment I am experimenting with styles and using my camera to view the Theatre from different perspectives. The Theatre has created an exciting canvas for me to work from and I love the discoveries I am making every time I look around. All the images in this series of work have been captured and processed on my iPhone. I will continue to upload my work in progress as I begin to formulate my ideas into final pieces for exhibition later this year.

Beyond The Windows at the LBT

Through my continuing exploration of the Lawrence Batley Theatre, as part of my artists residency, I have recently been capturing images that reflect views beyond the Theatre Windows. Here are a few of my favourites, each of which have been captured on the iPhone and processed entirely on my iPad.

Rain soaked images at the LBT

I love it when it rains... especially when I have my camera at the ready! Added to my portfolio of images capturing the essence of the Lawrence Batley Theatre are these two images. Both images have been captured and processed entirely on my iPhone.

iPhoneography at the LBT

I am beginning to build up a portfolio of images captured throughout the Lawrence Batley Theatre as part of my current residency project were I am exploring the Theatre through digital photography. At the moment I am exploring and experimenting, capturing images which may seem unexpected and turning them into small pieces of photographic art. I have lots of ideas of how this project may grow....but at the moment I am working organically, responding to things I see and ideas that emerge along the way. Here are some initial images... you may have to look closely to work out where in the Theatre they were taken!

Shadows and Light

Taking inspiration from the amazing light that filters through the windows on the balcony at The Lawrence Batley Theatre I have become fascinated by shadows and beams of light which create ever changing patterns on the walls. Here are some experimental works in progress...

A visit to my workspace at the LBT

Last week I had the pleasure of being visited by a very enthusiastic photography student from Kirklees College who had asked if she could visit me at my workspace at the Lawrence Batley Theatre. Leanne is very enthusiastic about photography and came armed with questions about my experience as a professional photographer. I shared some insights into how I have created some of my recent pieces along with showing Leanne some of the more sophisticated functions on her camera. It was a real pleasure to meet such an enthusiastic student. Good luck with your course Leanne, and thanks for taking an interest in my work! Keep photographing at every opportunity!

Thanks to Anna Connor for capturing this image ...

LBT Sketchbook

Now my Residency is underway at the LBT I have begun to fill my sketchbook with examples of work produced over the year. The sketchbook will present a mixture of photographic work alongside hand drawn images inspired by the photographs. So far I have added images of my montage and composite iphoneography pieces capturing scenes throughout Huddersfield and Todmorden, along with a DSLR montage image of hidden scenes found behind the walls of the Lawrence Batley Theatre. This work is leading up to the production of an animated film based within the LBT which I am due to begin in the New Year...very exciting!!!

LBT Montage

I have just completed my first montage piece as part of my residency at The Lawrence Batley Theatre. It is a montage of images I captured during my recent tour of the hidden depths of the Theatre. I am using this as a starting point for further montage pieces based around the Theatre, along with a series of pen and ink drawings.

From The Balcony - LBT

I have captured some interesting images this week whilst working on the balcony at The Lawrence Batley Theatre. The changing light throughout the day casts some beautiful shadows across the walls and ceilings and it has inspired me to capture it through drawing and iphoneography. Here are a few images from this week...
