New Exhibition: Windows of Light

Recent Exhibition at The LBT: The Last Curtain Call

I have been really busy over the last few months creating work for exhibition at The Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield. 

The first exhibition was a solo exhibition called "The Last Curtain Call" featuring images of the Palace Theatre, Hudderfield which has been left to decay under 50 years of dust and is soon to be converted into student accommodation. Pictures and Words: 154 and Barnsley Uplift

A few weeks ago I delivered a two day workshop alongside fellow 154 Collective artist Dan Mallaghan at The Cooper Gallery in Barnsley, with members of the Barnsley Uplift group. The workshop was based on Pictures and Words and introduced the group to capturing creative images on digital cameras and mobile devices, processing their photographs through various apps on iPads, printing them out and then producing a piece of creative writing based on their images. 

The first day was focused around being creative with cameras and we explored Barnsley Town Centre, looking for interesting shots from all kinds of unusual angles.

The second day was focused around processing images using photography apps on the iPad and then producing a piece of creative writing based on a chosen image.

The two days were really great and I was very impressed by the images that the group produced. Everyone was great fun and worked really hard! Their images were so super that each person submitted two of their photographs into the Barnsley Photographic Society Photography Competition....so fingers crossed! Best of luck everyone!

The Last Curtain Call

The Lawrence Batley Theatre (Upper Bar),  Huddersfield, 30th July - 9th September

My current solo photographic exhibition presents a contemporary peek behind the curtain of The Palace Theatre, Huddersfield, unearthing memories from a distant past, of a theatre which was built more than a century ago and which, at present, lies beneath 50 years of dust and decay. This exhibition will move to the Main House on the 8^th and 9^th September and will be a feature attraction of the Heritage Open Days at the LBT.

Crowlees Photography Project Featured in In Kirklees

The Arts4All Photography Project I recently delivered at Crowlees J&I School in Mirfield is featured in In Kirklees, an online daily newspaper by Spencer Wilson which collates news from throughout Kirklees. Fantastic!!

Crowlees Photography Project

I have just completed my last education project for this summer term which was a fantastic photography project at Crowlees J&I School, Mirfield as part of the Kirklees Arts4All Initiative. This was a four day project working with 60 Y5 pupils to create a limited edition hard back book and a limited edition giclee print to be framed and displayed in school. Throughout the project I worked with children to explore their school through the lens of a mobile device, including iPhones, iPods and iPads. In line with my own arts practice I encouraged the children to seek out interesting images by looking very closely at their surroundings and capturing images from angles in which they would not normally see things. 

 

I then worked with the children to process their images on mobiles devices through a range of photography apps. 

The children also produced a selection of drawings and pieces of creative writing by using their images as a starting point for stories, poetry and drawing. 

I had a wonderful time on this project, the children were great and they produced some amazing work. Here are some of their final images...

Scholes Photography Project

I am currently delivering a very exciting project at Scholes J&I School where I am working with Y5 pupils to explore their school through creative photography using mobile devices such as iPod Touchs, iPhones and iPads. The children have been seeking out interesting and unusual angles from which to take their photos and have found themselves on top of apparatus, on the floor, on chairs, bending down, stretching up and peering around corners and through windows in order to capture intriguing images. The children have been fantastic and are developing a fascinating library of images which will feed into a framed montage print to be displayed in the school beyond the project. 154 at Gallions School, Nehwam

After visiting children at Birdwell Primary School I travelled to Newham with Fabric Lenny to deliver 154 workshop with children a Gallions Primary School, Newham. The children were fantastic and produced some amazing artwork including continuous line drawings, pen and water wash portraits and mini canvasses. As well as drawing, the children also worked with me to produce a series of photographic portraits which will be part of a montage piece I am creating for the 154 Exhibition in June.
